eTA Canada Entry Requirements
Do all British citizens need a passport to enter Canada? The answer is: yes, all British citizens are required to get travel visas to enter Canada. There are different kinds of Visas, so you should check carefully to see which kind you need to get. The government officials in each country establish the rules and regulations that govern admittance into that country. If you do not understand any of the entry requirements you can contact the embassy in the country you are traveling to. You should also consult with your transportation provider or travel agent to double-check and make sure your passport and other travel documents meet the requirements for the country you are traveling to.
There are several different kinds of Visas you may apply for when entering Canada. Here is a list of some of them:
Electronic Visitor Visa
DYou may obtain an eVisitor Visa directly from the Canadian Department of Immigration & Border Protection. This Visa does not require an application fee or service fee for this service.
You may also enter the country via the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA). These entry documents are provided by the airline or by your travel agent. You do not need to pay for a Visa application, but they do charge you a $20 service fee.
If you have questions about these electronic Visa entry programs you may contact the Canadian High Commission in London or the Canadian Department of Immigration & Border Protection and they can assist you with all your inquiries.
Sometimes a physical examination performed by a medical professional is necessary before a Visa may be issued. They need to ensure that everyone entering the country is in good health. Make sure you build in extra time to get this completed if it is required.
Once you arrive you will be expected to provide evidence that you have enough funds available to cover the costs of your visit expenses and proof you have, or can pay for, a return ticket.
If you have an ePassport you can get through customs much faster by using the SmartGate passport control line when entering Canada. You may contact the Canadian Department of Immigration and Border Protection to get more information about the SmartGate passport/Visa regulations.
Working Holiday Visas
D You may be eligible for a holiday working Visa. You may renew these visas for a second year if you can show that you worked in a rural area for at least 88 days during your first year. Some British nationals make false claims that they worked as farm laborers with documentation they received from scam artists. Beware of those offering to help you extend your holiday Visa. If you get caught violating this law your Visa will be canceled and you will not be allowed to return to Canada for 3 years.
DOne thing you need to make sure of before you travel is to make sure your passport is valid and that it will stay valid for the duration of your visit. If you need to pass through another country on your way to Canada you must make sure to check and see what that county's passport regulations are. Some countries will not let you enter if your passport is valid for less than six months.
With a little-advanced preparation and a little paperwork, you will find your trip will go smoothly so all need to worry about eTA Canada after you board your plane in relaxation.
